Hope everyone is well and enjoying the summer. Our thoughts go out to those of you impacted by the many forest fires. We have been lucky so far this summer with nothing close by. At least any fires that we have out here are nature-caused by lighting, as the is no one else out here.
Hard to believe that our season is almost half over, seems like we just got here. It is just starting to get a little bit dusky but not enough where you would need a flashlight. The fire weed is all in bloom which usually means just a few weeks until our first frost. That usually happens in the second or third week of August. We are still picking morel mushrooms out in the fire area from last year and some of the guests have been picking them as well and taking them home. I’m surprised at how fast things are starting to grow in the fire and can’t imagine how incredible it is going to look next year when all of the fire weed comes into bloom.
The gardens and green houses are doing great and we are eating radishes strawberries, zucchini, broccoli, beans and lettuce, it won’t be long until the tomatoes, and cucumbers are also ready. The wild berries, like blue berries, raspberries and cloud berries are ready for the picking and make for great deserts.

What a great way to spend the evening.

The lake trout have started to move out into the deeper water as well as some of the bait schools of cisco. Spoons and jigs are working well and the pike can still be readily taken on flies both streamers and surface flies. Poppers are also working well but can be hard to cast into the wind at times.

For anyone still thinking about a fishing trip for this summer, there is still time and it could very well be the experience of a lifetime as we are witnessing this week with a dad that has brought along his 9 year old son. As you can see in the picture, his smile says it all and it will be something that he will never forget. I still remember all the great days here with my grand kids and can’t wait to see them again.
With darkness just around the corner, the northern lights will be out soon, geese will be on their way south soon and the start of fall will be here along with some great fishing.

Come on kid, hook one and I will help you land it
Until next time, enjoy your summer and take a kid fishing.
